Signs You May Need a New Water Heater Installation

Having ready-to-go hot water in our homes is a great luxury- one that many people take for granted until it’s not there when they need it. The good news is that water heaters do a pretty good job of letting us know when they might be on their way out, as long as you know what to look for. Certain signs could mean you need a new water heater installation. Read on to learn more about those signs from the team at Quality Plumbing & Heating Inc.

Leaking Tank

If you notice water dripping from your water tank or a pool of water underneath it, it’s time to call a plumber. There’s a chance that some of the valves or connections just need to be tightened up, but you won’t want to wait to call in case the issue is bigger than it appears.

Less Hot Water

This one probably seems obvious, but if you start to notice you have less hot water available, it could mean your unit is going out. As your water heater ages, sediment can build up over time, especially if the tank has not been flushed. As the sediment builds up, it leaves less room for hot water to be stored and can eventually clog up the entire unit.

Discolored Water

Another common sign of a water heating nearing the end of its lifespan is rusty or murky water coming out of your faucets. As the coating inside your hot water tank wears out, rust can begin to form and make its way into your plumbing.

Strange Noises

If your hot water heater begins to make some strange noises, it’s time to call a professional. They’ll perform a check and flush the system to try and remove any sediment or mineral buildup that could cause the noise. There’s also the possibility that the water heater element is broken and needs to be fixed.

Aging Water Heater

Last, but certainly not least, check the age of your water heater. Oftentimes the water heater installer will place a sticker on the unit that has a date. If not, you can search the brand name and serial number to find the age of your unit. If the system is getting up there in age, it may be time to invest in a newer and more efficient water heater.
